Hot temperatures and hot races at the Mud Drags

Wednesday, August 4, 2010 - David W. Ryan

Nearly 400 racers and fans braved the blistering heat last Saturday to take in the Dirt Drag Racing Associations (DDRA) sanctioned Arm Drop Mud Drags at the Louisiana Off Road Race Park in Jonesville. Veterans of the race park had everything under control with lots of tents, industrial fans, barbeque pits, generators and even several make shift mist blowers.

The mist blowers were bags of ice hanging over fans and produce a wonderfully cool mist. One fan pulled the blow fans from a one-ton air conditioner and AC/DC them through his truck. While there were endless attempts to stay cool the action on the track was fast and hot.

The track was so fast, announcer David McMillin throw down the challenge to any racer that got stuck, they would have to belly flop into the water and mud track. Two such drivers, whose names we didn’t get, took the challenge and lost the challenge – twice. Luckily they got stuck in the same spot each time and there was plenty of water to cushion the belly the flopping.

Old Faithful blew about 4 o'clock Saturday...
Looks like the ground exploded around him...
How can you not like to see something purple and gold plow through something orange or red?
Is there anyone in this truck?
Who's he giving the "thumbs up" to?
Turn to the left, no the left...ahhhh to YOU'RE RIGHT!!!
And the crowd goes wild...
The original pitstop...
Sometimes the races off the track are better than the ones on the track...
Large crowd despite the heat...
Just a blur to the fans...
All lined up and raring to go...
