Welcome to the Dirt Drag Racing Association
2009 dirt drag points racing season comes to an end
September 30, 2009 - David W. Ryan
The Dirt Drag Racing Association (DDRA) closed out their 2009 points season Saturday at the Louisiana Off Road Race Park (LORRP). More than 60 trucks and close to 500 drivers and fans attend the Joey Trunzler Memorial Dirt Drag event. Trunzler, who had worked at the Park since its inception, tragically passed away a few weeks prior to the races.
“It all went real good,” DDRA president David McMillin said of Saturday’s event. “We had love offerings for Joey’s family of more than $800 which his sisters, Summer Trunzler and Katie Adams received; but I’m sure it ended up being more than that as people continued to give throughout the night.”
As one final gesture by the DDRA and LORRP, McMillin said a permanent plaque will be displayed at the main tower in memory of Trunzler.
Alice Carriere from Jena, who had worked with Trunzler, said she enjoyed the races and chatting with fans at this race, but came to this event for another reason. “I just wanted to be there to feel a little closer and pay tribute to Joey. He meant a lot to the track and we all loved him dearly.”
McMillin also noted: “Overall it was just a great night and really the whole season. We had some classes come down to the last few races. As we continue to grow the association and get more tracks involved it can only get better.”
“I would also like each of the racers and all our fans to know how much we appreciate their participation and hope they realize they can come to us with any problems or new ideas to make this association the best around.”
To end the points season, the Park hosted a concert with Wasted Days Band of Baton Rouge with more than 250 attending.
Points Banquet
McMillin said he also wanted to remind all DDRA members, their 2nd Annual Points Banquet would be held Saturday, November 14th. The location and time will be set soon and announced on this website www.dirtdragracing.com as well as next year’s 2010 racing schedule which should be posted by the end of January.
